Frequently Asked Questions
Why can I only have 50 friends?
Because you don’t have 500 real friends. Research by anthropologist Robin Dunbar shows that humans can maintain about 50 meaningful close relationships. We designed Real Friends around that number so every connection on the app is someone you genuinely care about. The cap makes you intentional—you think about who actually matters rather than accepting every request that comes in.
What happens when I hit 50 friends?
You can’t send new friend requests until you remove someone. This is by design. It encourages you to keep your circle tight and meaningful. If you need to make room for someone new, you’ll have to decide who you’ve drifted from. And that’s okay—friendships evolve.
Who can see my posts?
Only your accepted friends. There is no public mode, no “friends of friends” visibility, and no way for someone outside your circle to view your content. If someone isn’t your friend on Real Friends, your posts are invisible to them.
Is there an algorithm?
No. Your feed is chronological. The most recent posts from your friends appear first. We don’t reorder, boost, suppress, or recommend anything. You see what your friends share, in the order they share it.
What can I post?
Text updates (up to 360 characters), single photos, or photo albums (up to 10 images). We kept it simple on purpose. Real Friends is about sharing moments with friends, not producing content.
Can people find me through search?
People can find you by username, name, phone number, or through their contacts. But they can’t see your profile, posts, or any personal information until you accept their friend request. If someone blocks you, you can’t even find them in search.
What happens if I block someone?
They disappear completely. They can’t find you in search, see your posts, view your profile, or interact with your content in any way. From their perspective, your account simply doesn’t exist.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All data flows through our secure server infrastructure. The app never accesses your data directly from the database. Media files are served through short-lived signed URLs. We don’t sell data, we don’t serve ads, and your content is never used for training or analytics beyond basic service operation.
What’s the difference between free and premium?
The core experience—posting, sharing with friends, your chronological feed—is free and always will be. Premium features enhance the experience with additional personalization and functionality. We’ll share more details as premium features roll out.
What are photo requests?
Photo requests let you challenge your friends to share a specific photo. Pick from fun prompts like ‘Pet tax,’ ‘Your view,’ or ‘Something chaotic’ — or write your own. You can send requests to all your friends or select specific people. Friends have 24 hours to respond.
What is Today’s Question?
Today’s Question is a daily poll that appears at the top of everyone’s feed. It’s the same question for all users. Vote first, then see how your friends (and everyone else) answered. You can also create your own polls and post them to your circle.
What is Ready to Share?
Ready to Share uses on-device AI to find your best recent photos and suggests them at the top of your feed. Tap any photo to open the composer and post it instantly. Everything runs on your phone — no photos are uploaded to our servers for analysis. You can dismiss any suggestion you don’t want to see.
Is Real Friends available on Android?
Real Friends is currently available on iOS. We’re focused on making the iOS experience exceptional before expanding to other platforms.
